It looks like someone just took some source snapshot (maybe from
upstream CVS), imported it into a Git repository, and pushed it to
GitHub. There is no history attached to it, so it could also contain
other modifications.

Definitely not a maintained version, so it should not be used.

Option a: Leave it at version 1.8

Option b: Update to a "CVS" snapshot

The repository was converted to git, the tag would be R1_9:
