Have you considered using ZNC or another IRC "bouncer"? It'll retain
and replay history for you so you can get offline messages and have
a consistent message history between computers and devices. Pretty
easy to install if you have a Linux server somewhere, and hardly
uses any resources.<br>

a) Move #macports to Libera.Chat<br>
While there are also other IRC networks, the new Libera.Chat

become the direct successor of Freenode. Many projects are
moving right now.<br>

We already have a RocketChat instance at <a
href="http://chat.macports.org" rel="noreferrer"
target="_blank" moz-do-not-send="true">chat.macports.org</a>,
which has<br>
been running for a while in parallel and we already gathered a
few<br>

c) Evaluate further options<br>
IRC is old, lacks modern features. Self-hosted RocketChat
requires<br>
regular maintenance. Matrix could be another federated
alternative.<br>
