Comment:

 Agreed, your /usr/bin/sed is bad (has perhaps been replaced by a GNU sed).
 Replace it with a good copy of standard Mac OS X sed (i.e. BSD sed) from
 your backups, or your Mac OS X install media, or maybe extract it (e.g.
 using Pacifist) from the latest Mac OS X combo update.
