Attached main.log and messages
{{{
$ port install -d python27 | tee port-debug.log

Error: org.macports.extract for port python27 returned: Failed to locate
'xz' in path:
'/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its
MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?

New to macports but xz does not seems to be part of the dependency.
{{{
port deps python27
Full Name: python27 @2.7.3_0
Extract Dependencies: xz
Library Dependencies: gettext, zlib, openssl, sqlite3, db46, ncurses,
bzip2,
libedit
Runtime Dependencies: python_select
}}}
Workaround: Installing xz before python27 works.
