 I am not able to reproduce this problem. I verified that the distfile on
 the MIT server and on our server are identical and that their checksums
 match what's listed in the Portfile.

 So for some reason the file you received was only 43 bytes, so that's
 obviously not the right file, or at least not the complete file. Please
 delete it (`sudo port clean --all kerberos5`) and try again.
