Here's the output I got from "sudo port selfupdate":

MacPorts base version 2.6.4 installed,
MacPorts base version 2.6.4 downloaded.

The ports tree has been updated. To upgrade your installed ports, you
should run
port upgrade outdated

So it updates both the "base sources" and the "ports tree". But that isn't
enough by itself.
It seems you need to do both. And if I'd done both about an hour after you
landed your fix, my copy of cyrus-sasl2 would have been upgraded to
2.1.27_3. I'll remember that for future reference.
