 With a clean installation of MacPorts on macOS Sonoma 14.2.1, Xcode 15.1
 on an M1 Max laptop, `hdf5 +openmpi` fails to build.

 To reproduce:

 `sudo port install gcc12`

 `sudo port select gcc mp-gcc12`

 `sudo port install openmpi-gcc12`

 `sudo port select --set mpi openmpi-gcc12-fortran`

 `sudo port install hdf5 +openmpi `


 This leads to:
