 I have not had an opportunity to test this PR personally as I do not at
 the moment have any systems running the relevant versions of OS X and it
 would take me some time to even spin up a VM, but this PR should hopefully
 fix it:

 Meanwhile, I submitted this PR to improve libressl-devel similarly, but
 again I have not yet tested it on an older OS X system personally:
