 Yes indeed the reported build is telling gcc two different ways at the
 same time.

 `--with-ld=${prefix}/bin/ld-classic` is in that portfile, currently line
 176.

 `-ld_classic` is an option on the compiler command line, and is coming
 from somewhere else.  I don't know where, but something is definitely
 injecting that.  Perhaps a portgroup or the latest source for libgcc12.  I
 do not have all the answers instantly for you, but this nicely explains
 the reported error message.
