 Thank you, Ryan. I think that your diagnosis is at least partly correct.
 And, also, now I know why my builds are so much slower than before.

 But it looks like there may be a "hard" (repeatable) error in py311-scipy.
 I am in way over my head, so I don't understand the error message, but I
 attached the log for your perusal.

 Luckily, QGIS is the one component I don't need to build in macports.
 There is a version on the web that will serve, and I'll download it next.
 So I'll probably not come back to this ticket, as I don't think I need to
 build qgis3, and all my other ports are (finally) building without any
 problems.
