 Well, I downloaded the source (not cloned via git), built it and let the
 test run that you mentioned. Looots happened. And finally:

 {{{
 All tests successful.
 Files=306, Tests=3596, 171 wallclock secs (18.05 usr  4.03 sys + 766.76
 cusr 262.83 csys = 1051.67 CPU)
 Result: PASS
 }}}

 But I’m not quite sure. Does this mean the +universal variant mentioned
 above would work? And, to be honest, I could not tell shot hrom the hip
 which compiler did that now by default :-)

 I saved the terminal session, anonymized it and will attach it.
