Comment (by umbramortem):

Yesterday when I tried installing I got the following error message

 Error: Port psfex not found

Today, I tried again, and got the following messages

atlas is known to fail. Try to install anyway? [y/N]: y

please use the +nofortran option, else install a fortran compiler (e.g.
 gcc4X) before building Atlas.

 there
 is a bug.
Error: Processing of port atlas failed

The message regarding the gfortran compilers seems odd since I have the
 classic gfortran compiler installed.

 Thanks for your kind attention.
