 I decided not to hold up submitting a PR pending fixing additional test
 issues, so I submitted one that just fixes the patch stuff and
 incorporates versions of a few Portfile fixes that I'd had from before.
 It's at [https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/22860].

 Still to be done is going through my old fixes for `libffi` itself and
 seeing which of them are still applicable.
