Why can root commit and I can't?

I think you're jumping the gun a little here.  We were testing this  
just a few minutes ago, and I hadn't had the chance to send an all  
clear message to the list yet.

In general, root can do a lot of things that others can't. =)  In  
this case, we were trying to diagnose the problem.

We think it's been resolved, and you should be all clear to commit at  
this point.
