Default +universal variant for configure-based ports

	I just updated trunk's version number to 1.5 to differentiate between 
that and the release_1_4 branch, which I have installed and does not 
carry Paul's "universal variant" work... could that be what's at 
fault?. I'll try later on reinstalling trunk and testing to determine 
why I'm not seeing the variants in the listing.
