Problems compiling perl5.8 on 10.5

I don't recall the warnings, but I did get this particular failure
when building perl5.8 with the shared variant (which only does
"configure.args-append -Duseshrplib" in the Portfile). I never looked
into the problem though, as perl5.8 built just fine without that
variant (even including +threads).
