FreeBSD has been doing this for over a decade.   There is quite a bit  
of useful legal/security metadata about ports that MacPorts hasn't  
gotten big enough to worry about yet, in fact, but that won't hold  
true forever.  Binary packages are just the tip of the iceberg.
