I've looked at some of the patches going into 1.7.1 and already  
applied them directly to my bin/port.  As for actually delving into  
the code, not so much yet.

I'm just looking to help out since there weren't many mentors on the  
list yet:  Co-mentoring and/or evaluating sounds like it would be a  
good way to go.
