tcl catch syntax

Yes, I've been "debugging" using the 'tclsh' symlink to tclsh8.5 provided by
macports (/opt/local/bin/tclsh8.5) and reading the 8.5 documentation at
http://www.tcl.tk/doc/

I'll switch over to tclsh8.4 and see if that helps.
