After php5-soap repeatedly failing to build I uninstalled everything  
using "port -f uninstalled installed" and then issued "port install  
php5-soap".

Still failing with:
/opt/local/var/macports/build/ 
_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync 
.macports.org_release_ports_php_php5-soap/work/php-5.3.0/ext/soap/ 
soap.c:3535: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 1 of  
'strcmp' differ in signedness
make: *** [soap.lo] Error 1

Error: Status 1 encountered during processing.
