darwin may lose primary target status on FSF gcc

Toby,
   If you are interested, here are the
results for Polyhedron 2005 benchmarks
(the reference set used for testing
fortran compilers) for the x86_64
code generated by gcc 4.2.4 and 
llvm-gcc 4.2.1's gfortran compilers
respectively on darwin9...

The results aren't bad when compared to
gcc 4.2.4 but that is an ancient release
by gfortran standards (basically when
it just started to be usable). In the
intervening releases, there have been
many changes to wire it up better to
the gcc middle end so that it optimizes
much better (and a huge number of bug
fixes and extensions for newer fortran
standards).
