change default variants to qt4-* ?

Yes, I had had that thought too -- switching the polarity of the
variants' purposes.

My bigger question is: Does this change make enough sense to do it?  I
think the answer is "yes", but I'm open to others' thinking.

If I hear nothing negative in the next few days -- to give me time to
finish getting qt4-mac* really working -- I'll rework the variants per
this discussion. - MLD
