I was thinking that, for what seems to be the same reason the portfiles are kept in categories, we should separate the archives. It's a bit troublesome to list everything that is in one directory, especially remotely. That being said, archives should become something that's automated and won't need human clean up or perusing.
I guess the current in-between moment (we can do archives but we don't have a build farm yet) has me thinking about things that in the end won't matter.
