Hi Joshua - I know that OpenSSL is not openmaintainer or
nomaintainer (and, I don't own it), which is why I added the
little ditty "Adding in without a ticket because it's such
a simple change".
Now, I will say "my bad" here because I was using a
personally-updated version (as documented in ticket #25686) with
variants that require the build process to issue "make depend"
before anything else -- which does indeed require the
"makedepend" port to be installed for building purposes. I
learned of this because I'm finally upgrading to 10.6.4 x86_64 &
reinstalling MacPorts from scratch in the process.
When I move back to using the original Portfile (without the
"make depend" or my variants), it does indeed NOT require the
"depends_build makedepend".
In the future, even for such a "simple" change to a port that
is not openmaintainer or nomaintainer (i.e., it is fully owned &
not by me), should I submit a ticket with patch & then negotiate
& hope for the best? For this specific change, doing so would
have been a good thing since it would have caught the issue
before the revision. But, in the case of the ticket mentioned
above -- it is now 7 weeks old, and looks to be dead in the
water. And, I don't think me correcting the patch file will help
with this ticket ... so, I'm not sure what to make of it, or
which way is better for such a simple change. Obviously for a
complicated change a ticket is the correct way to go.
My apologies for the mistaken change; that Portfile can be
reverted back. - MLD
