Um ... I'm using 10.6.4 x86_64, XCode 3.2.3, MacPorts latest from SVN:

$ port installed jack libsamplerate
The following ports are currently installed:
  jack @0.118.0_0 (active)

and thus 'libsamplerate' is not installed.  So ... at least for me 'jack' does not fail to build without 'libsamplerate' installed.  Just sayin' ... - MLD
