I'd say the proper solution is to let it use its own customized version of fox, by doing nothing. Add no dependency on or conflict with the fox port. (This is assuming their customized fox is used to build only, and is not in the end also installed -- right?)

Sounds like the fox port should also be updated. Could you file an update ticket please?
