(note that this isn't an openmaintainer port, so it's only appropriate for you to have done a build fix without contacting me/opening a ticket if it was failing on some supported system - and even then, I would have appreciated a note about it.

... and patching it this way means that everyone needs autoconf (and so also perl5) installed :(
