There was no ticket or discussion. While investigating an unrelated issue, I noticed that the syntax in the config files was wrong, found the cause, and fixed it. (The closing quote mark for the CFLAGS and LDFLAGS was being removed from the config Makefile by the reinplace; I copied the reinplace from the curl port which does not have this problem.)
