Bug with binary ports? (tar: +CONTENTS: Not found in archive)

I am using 2.0.4 and my tar is Apple's tar:
---
$ tar --version
bsdtar 2.6.2 - libarchive 2.6.2
$ which tar
/usr/bin/tar
---
and NOT gnutar.

What else could it be?
