JFYI, the remote PortIndex support that was also removed in r109659 was
being used by at least one person as of 2009:
<https://trac.macports.org/ticket/19338>

So while it's certainly a rarely used feature, it's not something that
absolutely nobody ever used like mports:// sources. Might be worth
asking that guy and the -users list if anyone is still using it.
