Could this port be renamed to py-spyder-devel? That's our usual suffix for non-stable releases.

The py-spyder-beta port should be retained as a stub port for one year marked as replaced_by the new py-spyder-devel port, to facilitate upgrades. But you'll need to individually replace each subport. The py-scikits-umfpack port shows one way this can be done.
