Via a CPUID instruction? Could be, but I’m fairly dubious. If it were the case, why check the CPU type at configure time…

Anyhow, AFAIK, the Qt4-mac port I compile on my MacMini 2011 (AVX capable) has run flawlessly on my late 2008 MacBook (Core 2 Duo).
