Yes, that's evident but that order wouldn't be defined if variants aren't evaluated in a predefined order (which I wasn't sure about).

Which means that one has to be very careful with variant-dependent patchfiles, and that could be cases in which one has to provide multiple patchfiles to achieve the same modification (depending on what variant(s) have been selected).
I cannot recall having seen a remark drawing attention to that fact in the documentation.
