As far as I know, MacPorts does not contain anything called "perl_select".

We have "port select", but it does not handle perl; adding this feature is difficult. See https://trac.macports.org/ticket/29763

That is the currently correct method for selecting the desired perl version that should be symlinked at /opt/local/bin/perl and /opt/local/bin/perl5.
