rsync'ing from extracted tarball

I switched from

rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/ports/ [default]

to

rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/ports.tar [default]

due to the warning about unsigned releases.

However, it appears that this system requires that TimeMachine and other backups now make full backups of all the sources instead of only the changes, which consumes more backup disk space. How about rsync’ing from the newly extracted tarball into the final location instead of a rm and a mv?
