Multiple distfiles vs "git submodule"

Blender runs their own git server <http://git.blender.org/> to store their
codebase. They provide read-only mirrors to GitHub, which is where I get
the distfiles from:
- blender/blender <https://github.com/blender/blender>
- blender/blender-translations
<https://github.com/blender/blender-translations>
- blender/blender-addons <https://github.com/blender/blender-addons>
- blender/blender-addons-contrib
<https://github.com/blender/blender-addons-contrib>
