When they say they need "the most recent released version of Xcode", I assume what they actually need is the MacOSX.sdk from the latest macOS and maybe a recent version of clang. MacPorts already has recent clangs and I have work in progress on adding ports to offer various versions of MacOSX.sdk; let me see if I can get that committed and then I'll see if it helps with iTerm2.
