Beginner's problems with old hardware

While I’m not sure what your options are for mail clients, you do have a good option for web browsing: TenFourFox. It’s what I use on my PowerBook G4, running 10.5.

And while it’s no longer actively developed, the last update was released late last year… and it seems quite good:
