Parallels 17.1.3 - Parallels Tools Broken, for macOS Guests

For users of Parallels 17: Parallels Tools may be broken for macOS guests, with the latest version released over the past few days (17.1.3).

Specifically, there appear to be issues with the signatures for their kexts, for macOS releases between 10.10 through 10.15. (10.9 and earlier seem OK, as do Big Sur and Monterey.)

$ sudo bash -c 'for f in /Library/Extensions/prl_*.kext ; do printf "\nChecking kext ${f}:\n" ; kextutil -t "${f}" ; done'

Checking kext/Library/Extensions/prl_eth.kext:
Diagnostics for /Library/Extensions/prl_eth.kext:
Code Signing Failure: code signature is invalid
ERROR: invalid signature for com.parallels.kext.eth, will not load

Checking kext /Library/Extensions/prl_tg.kext:
Diagnostics for /Library/Extensions/prl_tg.kext:
Code Signing Failure: code signature is invalid
ERROR: invalid signature for com.parallels.kext.tg, will not load

Checking kext /Library/Extensions/prl_video.kext:
Diagnostics for /Library/Extensions/prl_video.kext:
Code Signing Failure: code signature is invalid
ERROR: invalid signature for com. parallels.kext.video, will not load

As for non-macOS guests like Windows and Linux, some brief checks suggests those might be fine. Though my testing was far from conclusive, so don't take that as the gospel.

But if you’re using Parallels 17 to virtualize macOS guests - particularly if you have any VMs running 10.10 through 10.15 - you might want to avoid updating at the moment.

Lastly, I’ve posted about this on the Parallels forum, via the following thread. Don’t hesitate to subscribe to it for updates, and/or chime in if you’ve already updated to 17.1.3.
