For instance Azul Zulu OpenJDK indeed doesn’t officially support older versions of macOS: https://docs.azul.com/core/zulu-openjdk/supported-platforms This doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t work on older macOS versions, but I personally don’t have the hardware to verify this.

I don’t know what the OS support is for the built-from-source ports.
