 I have added the ~/.profile file I have manually created. Have I missed
 something I need for successfully working with MacPorts (for now I have
 not included anything that is used for X11)?

 If this is enough, my direct problem is solved.  However I will try to
 help solving this, so don't hesitate to ask more questions.
