 I would expect the gcc43 variant to actually use gcc-4.3 with all mpi
 wrapper. Can we please get variants gcc42 and gcc43 which use the
 respective C compilers as the underlying compiler, and a separate fortran
 variant, which switches on fortran support for the respective compiler
 which is selected (apple-gcc40 by default).
