The libpng port is at version 1.2.26 and works fine. Livecheck informs me
that version 1.2.27 has been released, but it won't compile (on Mac OS X
10.4.11 PPC at least):

This MacPorts ticket is to document the fact that we know a new version is
available and to explain why we can't update to it at this time. If a
patch emerges to let us install 1.2.27 we'll use that, or if 1.2.28 is
released we'll update to that.
