Comment:

 I would prefer to not update hdf5 from 1.6 to 1.8 at this point, since
 there are to many API incompatibilities. Instead, I would suggest to
 prepare a hdf5-1.8 package and use that instead. Maybe the current hdf5
 port should also be renamed hdf5-1.6 and the two should be declared to
 conflict with each other, but in the long run that is the better path.

 Alternatively, you could provide a hdf5-devel port as suggested in the
 Portfile, but then we still need to switch from 1.6 to 1.8 in the standard
 port at some point.
