 Are your ports up to date? Try

 {{{
 sudo port sync
 port outdated
 }}}

 Are any ports listed as outdated? If so, upgrade them. Then:

 {{{
 sudo port clean --work gd2
 sudo port install gd2
 }}}

 Does it work? If not, do you have autoconf, automake, gettext, libiconv
 and libtool installed and active? To find out, use:

 {{{
 port installed autoconf automake gettext libiconv libtool
 }}}
