 gd2 installs fine after checking and correcting the dependency on build
 tools, ie:

 {{{
 weber-mbp:~ root# port installed autoconf automake gettext libiconv
 libtool
 The following ports are currently installed:
   autoconf @2.62_0 (active)
   gettext @0.17_3 (active)
   libiconv @1.12_0 (active)
 weber-mbp:~ root#
 }}}

 So I was missing automake and libtool.

 Thanks!  Now on with installing gnuplot ;-)
