 gnucash has a variant without_quotes which just does this:

 {{{
 variant without_quotes description {Does not depend on building p5
 -finance-quote} {
     depends_lib-delete  port:p5-finance-quote
 }
 }}}

 What happens if the user already has p5-finance-quote installed? Will
 gnucash use it? If so, then the variant needs to be enhanced so that
 gnucash does not use p5-finance-quote even if it is already installed (for
 example, via a configure option, if one is available for this). If no
 configure option is available (I didn't see one) and no other means exists
 to tell gnucash not to use p5-finance-quote, then the variant should be
 deleted.
