 Noticed after I filed this that there is no maintainer which made me
 believe that it's possible that the package might be a bit old... sure
 enough... used 0.18 and all I had to do was add -fnested-functions to
 cflags to get it to build; it runs and there are no immediately glaring
 problems... (i don't know if --disable-mmx is still required; was left
 over from attempts with 0.4...)
