 Sorry I was not aware of the variants before. I have compiled mysql5-devel
 with +embedded_server and the configure script doesn't complain anymore
 about mysql! Instead, it now complains about gettext. But gettext is
 installed! gettext (GNU gettext-runtime) 0.17
