 as per http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-
 users/2008-February/008960.html and replies,

 openmotif install /opt/local/bin/periodic which is very different from
 /usr/sbin/periodic .  Due to the default macports $PATH, this command
 becomes the system wide default.  The openmotif command should possibly be
 renamed; maybe upstream, maybe by macports?

 I'm just a user who wants normal system functionality ;)

 note, openmotif currently has nomaintainer.
